2. An extract rich in tannin prepared from the leaves and young shoots of Uncaria Gambier, a rubiaceous shrub of the Malayan peninsula and islands, which climbs by means of hooked spines.
3. The inspissated juice of a plant (Uncaria Gambir) growing in Malacca. It is a powerful astringent, and, under the name of Terra Japonica, is used for chewing with the Areca nut, and is exported for tanning and dyeing.
