About NYT Strands

Strands is a daily word search puzzle from The New York Times. Each puzzle has a theme, and your goal is to find all themed words hidden in a 6x8 letter grid.

Words can be traced in any direction, including diagonals. Each letter is used exactly once.

What is the Spangram?

The Spangram is a special word that spans from one edge of the grid to the opposite edge and reveals the puzzle's theme.

Finding the spangram first often makes solving the rest of the puzzle much easier!

How to Use the Strands Solver

1. Enter the Grid

Type all 48 letters from the Strands grid, left to right, top to bottom (6 columns x 8 rows).

2. Add the Theme

Optionally enter today's theme to help identify which words are likely answers.

3. Find Words

Click "Find All Words" to discover every valid word. Long words (6+) are highlighted as potential spangrams.

4. Trace Words

Click letters on the grid to trace words yourself. Connected letters must be adjacent.

Strands Hint System

In the official game, finding non-themed words earns you hints. Every three non-themed words reveals the location of one themed word. Use this strategically when you're stuck!
