1. Any of various kinds of pain, especially pain that is suffocative, spasmodic, and/or acute and severe (fulminant). Ellipsis of angina pectoris (“chest pain of cardiac origin”).

3. An inflammatory infection of the throat, especially quinsy; any sore throat, with or without tooth and gum involvement.
