Anethol

1. The chief constituent (C10H12O) of the essential oils of anise and fennel. It exists in two forms, one a solid at ordinary temperature (anise-camphor or solid anethol), the other a liquid (liquid anethol).
2. A substance obtained from the volatile oils of anise, fennel, etc., in the form of soft shining scales; -- called also anise camphor.
3. Dated form of anethole.
