Racemism

1. The condition or state of being racemic.
2. In chem.: The character of an optically inactive substance which is separable into two substances, each of which has the same chemical composition as the other and as the parent substance, but one of which is dextrorotatory and the other levorotatory in relation to polarized light, as racemic acid may be separated into dextro- and levotartaric acids.
3. Same as racemization.
