1. A rent paid by a freeman in lieu of the services required by feudal custom.
2. Rent paid by the freeholders and copyholders of a manor in discharge or acquittance of other services. Also called chief-rent.
3. A rent reserved in grants of land, by the payment of which the tenant is quit from other service.
4. A rent reserved in grants of land, by the payment of which the tenant is quit (absolved) from other service.
