1. An orange crystalline compound, C15H10O5, that is obtained from rhubarb and other plants and has cathartic, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties.
2. In chem., a glucoside (C15H10O5), crystallizing in orange-yellow prisms, found in the bark of buckthorn and in the root of rhubarb.
3. An orange-red crystalline substance, C15H10O5, obtained from the buckthorn, rhubarb, etc., and regarded as a derivative of anthraquinone; -- so called from a species of rhubarb (Rheum emodei).
4. A purgative resin, 6-methyl-1,3,8-trihydroxyanthraquinone, obtained from some rhubarbs and other plants.
