1. A poisonous white crystalline alkaloid, C₂₃H₂₆N₂O₄, derived from the seeds of nux vomica and closely related plants and used to denature alcohol.
2. A vegetable alkaloid (C₂H₂₆N₂O₄), discovered in what was thought to be the bark of the <em>Brucea antidysenterica</em>, but which was that of <em>Strychnos Nux-vomica.</em>
3. A powerful vegetable alkaloid, found, associated with strychnine, in the seeds of different species of Strychnos, especially in the <xref urlencoded="nux%20vomica">nux vomica</xref>. It is less powerful than strychnine. Called also <altname>brucia</altname> and <altname>brucina</altname>.
